The diverse programme includes both indoor and outdoor activities. It will be based on know-how sharing, role games, problem solving, and using sport as a tool for learning.
Sport activities will be used to help young people learn how to work better in a team and develop leadership skills. Through the discussions and sharing their experiences the participants will gain a broader perspective of what healthy lifestyle is and how to keep fit. The workshops and presentations, as well as all the role games will also show the individuals how to live a healthy active lifestyle by including different exercises and sports to their everyday life.
At the end of the project team members will have acquired knowledge in the area of health, wellbeing, and active way of life. By creating a network of young people from different countries and organizations, the information and experience can be easily shared. This project would be a great first step towards establishing a long-term partnership that can be evaluated on a later stage by the improvements in the area of healthy and active lifestyle amongst young people.
Objectives and aims:
Тhe aim of the project ‘Mens sana in corpore sano’ (‘A sound mind in a sound body’) is to raise awareness amongst young people at the age of 18-30 about well-being as well as to keep them informed about healthy attitudes towards life itself and the benefits of keeping fit. According to various sources over half of Europe’s population is overweight, and more than 20% of it is obese. Alternative sources show that physical activities for at least 30 minutes a day can decrease the risks of many chronic conditions up to twice; if combined with a healthy lifestyle it can even bring these risk levels below 15%. Although research on the harms of obesity and sedentary lifestyle is controversial, especially in western countries, the percentage of young people that are obese, such that exercise less than once per week or have metabolic syndrome continuously increases. This is due to the unawareness of own metabolic processes and basic food hygiene, lack of sports equipment, halls and role models in the local communities.
The objective of the project is to combine theory and practice and to stimulate the participants to be active. Activities will include group discussions and workshops on various topics, ranging from principles of healthy eating and other healthy habits to the functionality of the human body and causes of obesity. While practicing various sports like hiking and dancing, the participants will explore different opportunities to live active and healthy life and learn the skills this lifestyle promotes – team work, persistence, patience, proactivity, quick reactions. By engaging various partner countries – 4 EU members ( Romania, Poland, Latvia and Bulgaria) and 4 neighbour countries (Turkey, Ukraine, Belarus and Azerbaijan ) we are aiming to make active, healthy lifestyle more popular amongst the young people from different background and origin, to exchange ideas and good practices and get a better understanding of what is the best way of promoting those ideas.
Participant countries: Azerbaijan, Belarus, Ukraine, Turkey, Romania, Poland, Latvia, Bulgaria
Participant profile: The candidates should either live a healthy lifestyle and have sports background or have no clue what is that. We are looking for teams of people that are motivated and will take an active part in the project life cycle, would be interested to gain new knowledge and benefit from the training. Those teams will be formed of 6 members and a team lead from each country – expecting that there are different opinions to be shared on the topic of healthy lifestyle and how it can be achieved. The leader of the team should not only manage the group, but also ensure the better incorporation of the ideas and experience the organisation has to share, as well as help with the organisation of different events after the project’s part in Bansko.
