Description

 

The Academic Advisor of the English for Academic Purposes Program (EAPP) is responsible for providing academic advising to EAPP students concerning their growth and development by constructing meaningful educational plans compatible with the students’ academic goals. Services include guidance to EAPP students individually and/or within groups to ensure students understand their academic requirements and maintain a commitment to academic and behavioral excellence. Advisors also help to create a positive and engaging learning environment, where the students develop a strong sense of belonging and move towards achieving academic excellence. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Develops strategic plans for advising based on student data and delivery outcomes;
  • Advises students in academic goal-setting and achievement by identifying the most effective and efficient path to program completion;
  • Introduces, interprets, and explains University policies and procedures;
  • Provides information related to academic programs, leaves of absences, academic probation, transfer options, and services related to special needs, etc.;
  • Maintains contact with students throughout the term and provides support while addressing student concerns;
  • Maintains detailed and up to date student records and data accurately and in a timely manner;
  • Advises students on registration, and add/drop, and withdrawal procedures;
  • Develops plans for students on academic probation and works with them to identify problems and solutions to help them accomplish their plans of study;
  • Responds promptly and accurately to student inquiries in a timely manner;
  • Assists and participates in the formation and implementation of organizational goals and objectives;
  • Assists the program director with successful implementation of internal and external projects and events;
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Requirements

  • MA in the related field - preferably in Education, Psychology, TESOL;
  • Proficiency in English and Azerbaijani;
  • Ability to produce high quality work while working under supervision or independently;
  • Able to effectively prioritize and work on multiple tasks with concurrent deadlines and demonstrate excellent time management skills and efficiency;
  • Ability to coordinate and organize meetings and/or special events;
  • Commitment to continuous learning;
  • Knowledge of planning and scheduling techniques;
  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technology;
  • Basic record maintenance skills;
  • Basic database management skills;
  • Knowledge of academic administrative principles and procedures;
  • Flexibility, creativity, patience, endurance, tolerance;
